    This 2 day, comprehensive 12 hour course provides an overview of mental health issues and substance use disorders in the U.S. and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact, and provides an overview of common treatments. This training is open to all interested persons.

    Who should attend: Clinical Staff of substance abuse, mental health and primary care providers, Health Educators, Community Cessation Facilitators, Case Managers, Home Health Care Workers, Nurses and other healthcare providers.
    Description of training: Participants will learn basic motivational interviewing techniques related to Stages of Change.

    Tobacco-use Intervention Program: – Cessation Group - Facilitator Workshop - Using a curriculum designed for AOD clients who want to quit smoking
    Trainer: Cathy McDonald, M.D., MPH; Gloria Soliz; and P.Palmer.
    Location: Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services, 2000 Embarcadero Cove, Suite 400, Oakland, CA 94606 - Gail Steele Room - formerly Alameda Room.
    Description of training: A TWO DAY workshop focused on learning and practicing how to lead an 8 session tobacco cessation group using a curriculum especially designed for AOD clients – enhancing skills clients utilize to quit using other substances. Tobacco-Use Intervention Program (TIP) curriculum will be provided.

    Workshop fee $50 (covers box lunch for both days). Limited Class Size (20) and participants are encouraged to attend 2 per agency.
